Japan Mission Trip 2016

On April 14, 2015, I wrote in my journal, "I'm praying for a mission trip. I am asking God to direct my footsteps to go and serve him on the mission field." Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is committed to taking the good news of Jesus Christ to the nations, and Dr. Akin, our president, encourages students to participate in an international short-term mission trip during our time at Southeastern.

God has answered my prayer through Southeastern's international short-term mission trip program. I signed up to take the gospel to Japan in April 2016. God has been showing me through Scripture his love for all people, and as I challenge students to share their faith, God challenged me to take the great name of Jesus Christ to the Japanese. Through prayer and the wisdom of others, I believe God has called me to participate in this mission trip.

I am asking for my family and friends to support me on this mission trip by praying for the people that the mission team will encounter. Pray that the Japanese we meet along this trip will have open ears for the Word of God. Pray that the team will speak with boldness and clarity the simple truth that they were created by a loving God, they are dead in sin, but through Jesus Christ's death and victorious resurrection they can have eternal life by believing in Christ and turning from their sin. Pray that God would open their hearts to receive this truth, and that many will believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Start praying now to the throne of grace that God may get the glory he deserves through this short-term mission trip to Japan.

Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest" (Luke 10:2). God has called me to go and labor in Japan in April 2016, so pray for me to be bold, clear, and Spirit-led on this mission trip.

This mission trip costs $2,500.00. I am asking for you to prayerfully consider how God might have you invest in this opportunity to share the gospel in Japan by helping me fund this trip. If you feel God leading you to invest in the advancement of the gospel to Japan through this mission trip, you may go online at www.sebts.edu/cgcs/ and click on the right-side box "Give to Missions." Enter that you heard about this trip to Japan from me. You may also make checks payable to SEBTS and return them to me so I may deliver them to the Financial Development Office. My address is:

Jeremy Bell
224 Phil Watson Road
Anderson, SC 29625

In preparation for this trip, we will be learning about the region and people, their traditional beliefs, and how we can best share God's truth and love with them. Once we arrive in Japan, we will continue to study more about the people and will interact with them on a daily basis to share the Word of God. What a privilege to share the gospel with those who otherwise may never hear it!

I ask for your prayers as God prepares my heart for the people in Japan.

By God's Grace,

Jeremy Bell

Teaching Reconciliation to Children

One of the many joys of parenting comes in the form of teaching our children new things. We all remember the first time we taught our child or children to tie their shoes, to hit a T-Ball, or to ride a bicycle. Most of us were just as thrilled to watch our children learn and succeed as they were in accomplishing the task before them. In this post, I want to encourage Christian parents to teach their children the biblical principle of reconciliation. By reconciliation, I mean restoring a relationship when sin has hurt the relationship. We need to be honest with ourselves; our children are not perfect. Our children's hearts are prone to sinful actions (Prov. 22:15). Our children will be sinned against and will sin against others. God has graciously blessed us with our children for only a short amount of time. Which means, God has placed our children with us in order that we may teach them the ways of the Lord. All Christian parents should desire to one day send their children ou...

Components for Analyzing Quality Curriculum

Student pastors are constantly bombarded with the newest curriculum that some Christian agency has developed to grow students to a spiritual level that other curriculum was unable to achieve. Most student pastors may ask the question, “Which curriculum will achieve the desired results for students?” This blog will propose three components of quality curriculum for student and family ministry. First, theology proper in the traditional Protestant system may be defined as the Doctrine of God.[1] Quality curriculum will exploit God as omnipresent, omniscient, holy, triune, creator, sustainer, redeemer, merciful, just, righteous, and any remaining characteristics within each lesson. Students must be exposed to the glory of God through his special revelation to his people. Quality curriculum will develop the majesty of King Jesus so that students will be in reverence and awe of God’s nature therefore willing to live lives for his glory in light of receiving the gospel. Teaching the Lost Art of Chivalry

Chivalry . . . . That's a word you don't hear everyday. According to Merriam and Webster, one of the definitions for chivalry is, "an honorable and polite way of behaving especially toward women." I believe that we need to bring back the lost art of chivalry in our culture. I know that some movements desire to eradicate the idea of chivalry, but I believe we as fathers, student pastors, and teachers should foster a culture of young men that embrace the ideas associated with being a gentlemen towards women.  God made women and men different, and that's a good thing (Gen 1:27; Gen 2:18-25). God made us spiritually equal (Gal 3:28), but functionally we have complementary roles (Eph 5:22-33). Therefore, chivalry is not dead, but it is dormant. I believe we should teach young men how to behave like young men, and teach them how to treat women with politeness, gentleness, and kindness.  If you ever come to a student ministry event with me, you will hear me...
